WKF cic has just spent a lovely week up at Maes y Bryn, Dinas - Llanfairfechan on a volunteer archaeological dig. The event, organised by Snowdonia National Park Authority on behalf of the Carneddau Landscape Partnership Scheme, took volunteers and work experience students into the Llanfairfechan hills in search of Neolithic artifacts.
"I love ancient history, everything from the Celts to Norsemen and so, I find this very interesting, digging up axe shards and little pieces of flint that haven't been touched for 6000 years. It's very cool." - Toby, Student

It's a joy to see the community come together over a project like this, with all ages and backgrounds having fun and learning about this unique period in our history. Discovering how much the landscape had changed, these hills would once be covered in trees. Our ancestors lived, farmed, and made stone axe in these hills and WKF cic was chuffed to learn all about them.
"Yesterday we found an end scraper, they are used to tan hide and scrape off meat from fresh hides, which is really cool because, in this area, you find rough-outs and flakes from axes, but we hadn't necessarily seen any other form of tools. So then, over the course of this week, we did kind of disprove that theory. They were using other types of tools, such as this scraper so it’s really exciting." - Ashley, Volunteer

WKF cic is joining the dig again in September and I can't wait to see what we'll find.
